Valentine’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate love and show appreciation for the people who matter most in our lives. This year, I wanted to find a fun activity to do with my son that was valentines themed and came across Love Notes. Love Notes are adorable pastries shaped like envelopes with a heart on top, filled with your choice of jam or pie filling. They are easy to make, delicious to eat, and perfect for sharing with your loved ones.
I’ll admit I got lost in the activity and was a bad blog momma and didn’t take any photos of my little guy helping to cut out the pastries, fill them with preserve and pie filling, press the envelope pieces together and delicately put a heart on top. But trust me, he had a blast and was very proud of his creations. I’ve never seen him focus so hard on making sure he was scooping enough jam onto his spoon. We ended up making two batched, one for my office to share with the wonderful women I work with, and a second for home. We enjoyed our Love Notes with a glass of milk, and then helped pack some away for the office.
Love Notes are a great way to spend some quality time with your kids and make something sweet for your sweethearts. I hope you give them a try and let me know how they turn out.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Love Notes
Ingredients
- 1 package of refrigerated puff pastry
- Your favorite jam or pie filling I used cherry
Instructions
- If you are using frozen puff pastry pull it out of the freeze and let it thaw, we waited about 20 minutes so it was moldable but not too warm it would be sticky.
- Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Create your stencil, this will influence how many love notes you’ll get out to of our pastry. We make our stencil with Constuction paper and made its width equivalent to the 1/3 break of the puff pastry.
- Unfold the puff pastry and using your stencil cut using a knife or a pizza cutter.
- Place the bottoms on the baking sheet and spoon a teaspoon of jam or pie filling in the center of each square.
- Place to top piece on the filling, and using a fork crimp the edges for a decorative seal.
- Using the scrap, cut out small hearts from the remaining pie crust and place one heart on top of each envelope.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden and puffy.
- Let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar
